I am not psychic and so, I don’t have the third ‘psychic’ eye to see spirits like some people do. I guess I just happen to be in wrong place and the wrong time. The first time, I ever saw a ghost… a REAL ghost mind you – was when I was driving through the OUG area. This was back in the late 90s when I was still in college and often borrowed my dad’s car to hang out with my friends.
That night, I drove all the way to Steven’s corner (a good late night hangout) to have supper. After all the jokes and endless chatter, I had to call it a night. So, I got in the car with a friend whom I was driving home and we drove through the old and crummy OUG housing estate that was had been around since the mid-70s.
I was driving through a dark road that was punctuated by dim street lamps. Then, in the distance, I could see a bus stand lit by a single lamp by the roadside and there was a a white figure sitting. As I got closer, it became clear that the figure was a girl dressed in white and her head was lowered and she was staring at the ground! She had unusually long hair and as I got closer, she lifted her head slowly to look towards me.
It was her eerie long hair that almost covered her face and the slow and fluid manner in which she moved her head, I knew in my guts that she was a ghost. I freaked out, stepped on the pedal and zoomed past her. From the corner of my eyes, I could see that she was staring at me and her face turned to maintain her stare as I drove past.
When I was at a safe distance, I asked my friend if he saw her. He said he didn’t notice. For the rest of the journey, I kept doing double takes at the bus stops that I drove past. I will never forgot the slow and fluid manner in which she lifted her head. It was just like in the movies but this is real life!
